My name is David. On an ordinary day, my grandson and I had set out to do some ordinary tasks. However, the events of that day brought things that neither of us could have expected. The result may be something we do not like, but a motivation to try and make a difference. Whatever comes of that day is anyone’s guess. There is no doubt that a new beginning is upon us, and as is the case with every new beginning, you never really know how it is going to end. — Approximately 10,000 words.

The search of a millennium is over. Computers aboard Inter-galactic Starship Omega find a planet with water and oxygen in usable quantities to sustain humanoid life. It is over populated, polluted and has one social problem; forty eight percent of the human population are males, well beyond the one in a thousand necessary on Planet Delta to maintain the sperm banks.

However, the humanoids aboard cannot be kept alive for the estimated two hundred years required to find another solar system so the journey must end. Minor alterations are needed in the humanoids' metabolism. The women need to understand English for a landing in Australia, the most unpolluted continent the computers can find. Sensations and emotions are changed back to natural; after all, a bearer needs emotions more than the neuter that these females were on the home planet.

It is time to awaken Pazz and prepare her for life on Earth while cloned younger sister Kylina , now 22 not 12 as remembered by Pazz, can be kept in reserve. There is also Lunol, from a primitive preindustrial planet and Kylina's partner but he is male and doesn't count.

Alone, with only an armlet computer for company, Pazz lands in the West Australian desert. She catches the Indian Pacific Express for Sydney, three days journey away but catches the flu virus. With no immunity she becomes seriously ill and is taken off the train at Adelaide. Doctor Duncan Bourne a linguist from the The University Of Adelaide is contacted when nobody can understand her delirious speech. Duncan finds her speaking an ancient dead Greek language that he can understand. After she recovers, they become friends. Pazz adapts to life on Earth and, by having her qualifications entered into Earth computers, becomes Doctor Pazz D'rose, a mathematician and biochemist.

How does this affect Pazz, Kylina and her partner? Is Lunol rescued and how do the military on Earth react to having the alien humans in their midst?

Rescue Stories: A science fiction novelette.

“It’s very straightforward,” stated the culture-officer, with an edge of self-satisfaction. “If we can’t survive long enough for the natives to reach the required level of civilisation naturally, why then we’ll simply accelerate their development so they get there much sooner, when we are still alive and wholly capable!”

When their ship crashes, the post-human crew of the Hermes launch a desperate bid to accelerate the technological development of the primitive natives, so that when the crew awake from hibernation they might find a civilisation eager and able to repair the ship. Memetically primed to search out an assist God's Hidden Angels, how will the natives react when they finally encounter the post-human crew?

Rescue Stories was a runner-up in the BSFA 50th Anniversary Short Story Competition.

These exotic smart treasures which Murkuria dubs Felakoons, endear themselves to the proud Clan, proving to be far more than mere pets. However, as the Sunpyne and Sauri return from their first mission to the stars, anticipating awe, triumph, and glory, unexpected opposition to the new "alien" life throws the planet into strife and conflict such has not been seen in centuries. Will the Felakoons earn a place in Furlitian society, or be sterilized, and die out as a species before have barely begun to live? Some sexual content.

He panted. Every sip of air seemed to burn his lungs. The air was thick and sticky; it smelled like rotten fish mixed with ammonia.
He could feel the rough concrete against his back; he shifted his position and stole a glance at the east ramp. Nothing. Only darkness and stillness.
It just made him more alert; the quietness was somehow out of place.

Narrowly escaping the spaceliner's destruction in a cargo shuttle, he, his bride, and five others crash onto an un-colonized moon, where they have to figure out how to survive until the rescue comes. Assuming it ever does.

Delphinus is a 9,700 word (about 39 printed pages) novelette.

A Stop At Stanford (short story, 4200 words): Doug Nyren makes videos. He wants to move to a place where the other artists aren’t snobs and his neighbors won’t try to push him to be a sell-out. He visits the tiny town of Stanford on the planet Gypsum. He meets some interesting people there, but will Stanford be the new home he’s looking for?
