Fawning, Fear and Frustration collects thirty six poems, featuring a range of poetry that considers love, death and confusion in addition to a number of matters that lay somewhere in between. Many of these poems are raw, tinged with anger, uncensored, and I like it that way. It maintains the authenticity of the emotions I was struggling with at the time. However, the collection does not dwell entirely on anger, many of the poems fully embrace a ludicrous level of romance. Yes, it can be quite emo at times. Of course, some of these poems are just silliness, so I hope you can enjoy them with a sense of humour, too. Taken as a whole, Fawning, Fear and Frustration may make you relive the days of your youth, it may provide you with an insight into the lives of teens around you, it might make you question your assumptions and beliefs, and it just might make you laugh. Please, read and enjoy! Availability: Other | | | The Poetess Poetry

The human body is a storehouse for the organs, blood, and bones that convey our emotions. When one of these houses is really looked into, you'll find that humanity is really connected by common universals of feeling. Some of these universals are treacherous, surprising, and some are even heartwarming. As usual, they come from a place of truth in the poet's heart. Enjoy! This book is part anthology of many of my best poems, part instructional guide especially for beginning haiku writers and part short stories or haibun to contextualize the poems. Of course, you can look at the full sample offered, but here is a brief passage from the book:
Growing up, many friends carried good luck objects in their pockets. One had a lucky penny, another had a rabbit’s foot and another packed a small wrench his mechanic dad gave him. As if to compete, some boys had pocketknives and one had a small nail clipper attached by a small metal chain to the belt loop of his Levi’s. I never saw him cut his nails. A red-haired kid carried a bent-up photo of his dad who had died in a car accident. I didn’t understand that at the time, but I wanted to be different, too. I decided to carry the foot from a squirrel I had shot. These objects were like friends that kept us company and preserved connections to people.

The only thing I kept when my mom died was the lucky Kennedy half-dollar I had given her to use on scratcher tickets. I didn’t want to say I wanted anything. Other coins continued to give comfort for a while longer.

Written between the ages of 12 and 20, the poems cover everything from puppy love to the real deal, as well as the less appealing parts of growing up, such as loss of a loved one, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Because of some of the darker themes, parental discretion is advised. Availability: Other | | | Bard Memorial Hospital Poetry
Poetry about hospital, doctors, patients? Why not?
The author's more than 25 years in hospital management form the backdrop for this work. The events described in some of these pieces may be hard for the reader to believe. While the subject matter is, of course, fictional, it was inspired by real happenings that he either witnessed personally or heard about. He has changed names and places, and has combined or compressed factual material to protect the identities of real people.
Most people think of hospitals in terms of doctors, nurses, therapists, x-ray and medical technicians, food servers, and housekeepers. They don't give much thought to purchasing agents, storeroom managers, pharmacists, secretaries, accountants, clerks, sterilization staff, boiler plant operators, painters, carpenters, photographers, messengers, administrators, social workers, and morgue attendants.
There are also Medical Records Rooms, Medical Libraries, Graphic Arts Departments, Mail Rooms, Copy Rooms, Computer Rooms, to name a few lesser known non-clinical departments. And let's not forget the volunteers who give generously of their time and money to guide, assist and sustain the hospital's operations and growth: the Boards of Trustees with lawyers, CPA's, business people; and the various Auxiliaries with homemakers, retirees, and teenage "candystripers."
Vignettes and poems about most of these characters can be found within the pages of "Bard Memorial Hospital" and should provide a familiar chuckle or twitch of recognition to anyone that was ever a patient or visitor to a modern hospital facility.
