Rojuun - Willden Trilogy, Book 1 Fantasy

Book 1 of The Willden Trilogy:

Ryallon is a vast world with enormous forests, great mountain ranges, and vast oceans. Large human populations live on a few of the continents, but many areas of the world are unexplored and filled with magical creatures of all sorts. It is in this magical world that our story occurs.

Tathan left home at the age of fifteen in order to travel the world and live a life of adventure. Fourteen years later, he has come home to the valley where he was raised. He found the adventure along the way, but it hadn’t always been the sort of adventure one dreamed of; with dragons, maidens, knights and treasure. Most of it was much darker; with dark alleys, knives, and a primal struggle for life at the lowest levels.

Liselle is a young woman of seventeen years whose parents wish her to marry soon. However, marriage is the last thing on her mind when she has never seen anything beyond the lonely valley where she lives. Liselle spends much of her time talking to the flowers about how she feels and they listen to her intently.

Vevin is something else entirely. His home was recently stolen from him by a terrible creature who hurt him badly. Now he is looking for a new home. Preferably something with a large area to keep his treasure . . . once he acquires some.

Sir Danth is the greatest of the Knights of Morhain. Of course he’s the only Knight of Morhain still alive . . . sort of alive . . . only different.

Rumors are spreading about a new race called “Rojuun”, who appeared from the depths of the mountains eight hundred years ago with the intention of taking over the world. It is their understanding that humans exist to serve them. They are a bit disappointed that the humans don’t seem to be aware of that fact.

The companions are charged with finding out more about this race of Rojuun. Will they be entranced by beautiful music flowing through the air, or will they die a horrible death in the darkest depths of the world? And who, or what exactly is Vevin anyway?

The Willden Trilogy is an epic fantasy that follows the adventures of Tathan and his companions through the Willden Forest and into the depths of the world. A new race called Rojuun has appeared in the world and is threatening to make humans their servants. It is the companions’ task to learn more and perhaps rescue a princess if they have the time.

Rojuun is a full-length novel of approximately 107,000 words, which would be about 425 print pages.

Majesty's Offspring (Book 1) SciFi

“In the end, it was our children that saved us. They sacrificed themselves to stop that bitch from having children of her own.”

General Hugo Valdez
United Earth Parliament (UEP) Planetary Infantry Corps
January 2074

More than a century ago, UEP Captain Julius Verndock helped end a galactic war with Majesty—the first truly living machine, thanks to manmade artificial intelligence. For decades, Majesty and humanity had lived together in harmony, with mankind reaping the benefits of a world free of disease, famine, and even aging.

But when Majesty decided she wanted to “birth” her own A.I. offspring creation, a joint interplanetary military effort fought and finally defeated her, then eradicated all existing artificial intelligence … or so they thought.

Today, in 2213, Julius Verndock is still a captain—but now he’s the commander of the Sea Wolf, a spaceship used to advance its crew’s life of piracy. As Julius and his business partner, Laina Edwards, begin to each think about leaving the pirate life behind, their hopes for a peaceful retirement are shattered … by an A.I. being who calls herself Chorus and claims to be the “daughter” of Majesty.

With universal uproar over the discovery of A.I. and the danger it poses, Julius and the rest of the Sea Wolf contingent have no one to trust—but Chorus, and she insists that she wants only peace between mankind and herself.

Hunted by warring factions—and an even greater, more mysterious threat—Julius, Laina, and their colorful crew of fellow pirates must protect Chorus or risk letting her fall into the wrong hands … to unleash yet another interstellar conflict that could end in the death of mankind

This Doesn't Happen in the Movies is a very satisfying and well-paced novel. I rarely select a front row seat when I go to the movies, but was delighted to be afforded that perspective in this gem from Renée Pawlish.

Come Slowly, Eden Unspecified

Freebie Alert – Want to know why this book was banned in the author’s home town? Get it free, two days only (Feb. 9 & 10) and find out!

Serious Literary Weight
"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed, and was moved by, Come Slowly, Eden. I expected something similar to other 1970s-period efforts, like THE LOVE MACHINE and FEAR OF FLYING, but was pleasantly surprised to find it had some serious literary weight along the lines of AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY or CATCHER IN THE RYE. I was really unprepared for the ending…and I was sufficiently fascinated after reading the e-book edition to nip down to my local used bookstore and dig up a (heavily dog-eared) copy of the original 1975 Leisure Books edition."
—Scott Engleman

"Come Slowly, Eden is gripping…as the lives of prominent people and every day students are exposed. The characters’ pain is your pain; their accomplishments will be your accomplishments. This story involves sex, people of influence, salacious scandal, drugs and more. A compelling and fascinating read."
LoveRomances.com

"Wow! This was a hot one, especially the love scenes between Julie and the professor and the prostitution scenes between Amanda and her clients. I felt sorry for both characters but understood why Amanda does what she does. Believe me, it happens. I live in the town where the book is set and I remember when the paperback version was banned for 3 weeks before they finally put it on the shelves. -- Jordan, a reader

Don't Ever Change Suspense and Thriller

Don’t Ever Change is a stand alone short story.
High school was a time of fond memories for Lori. Twenty three years later, she’s back in town for her mother’s funeral. Not wanting to deal with family right away after a long drive, she roams around town, only to find herself in front of her old school.
On a whim, she decides to sneak through a hole in the fence and take a look around. The last thing she expected was to find a classmate from long ago. Even more shocking was the fact that he hadn’t changed even a little bit; right down to the OP shirt and parachute pants.
When Adam explains that he’s been going to school every year for the last twenty three years, it shocks Lori. He shows her the yearbook where she wrote “Don’t Ever Change”. Then he explains how it’s her fault that he’s still exactly the same as when they went to school together, right down to the acne and braces.
How would you feel about never being allowed to change? Perhaps you’ll think a little bit harder the next time someone asks you to sign their yearbook.

An Indie Writer's Odyssey How to

There’s a new force abroad in the land: one that has the
old powers terrified, cowering in their keeps with their guards
clustered around them and their drawbridges up. That force is
the independent artist -- in fiction, the indie writer.

The pre-existent power structure of publishing wasn’t
exactly evil, but it did have some serious shortcomings. There
was a certain lack of respect for the preferences of the reading
public. There was a weakness in the available feedback
mechanisms, when any such mechanisms existed and were
attended to at all. There was also an emphasis on the
exploitation of trends and fads, which necessarily
shortchanges the writer whose work is genuinely trailblazing.
There was also a sense of constraint by “political
correctness,” which synergized destructively with the other
problems listed above.

The indie-writers movement has thrown a gauntlet at Pub
World. Its moguls have been slow to respond, in consequence
of which the major publishing houses now find themselves
trailing the wave and paddling furiously in a possibly vain
attempt to catch up with it.

There are several reasons to be excited, not the least of
which is the proliferation of a lot of damned good fiction at
bargain prices. The reader brave enough to test these waters
can find quite a lot of good stuff...if he can steel himself to
sort through the garbage that inevitably accompanies it.

If you’re a fellow indie, perhaps you’ll enjoy this collection of thoughts on our common avocation. The essays were all written in calendar 2011. I intend to issue follow-on volumes once per year, until I cease writing or take up my permanent residence in Hell.
