One of the best-loved collection of children's books during the mid-to-late 1800s was Dame Wonders' picture books. They were richly illustrated, and appealed to pre-readers as well as first readers. This is her book on Animals and Birds. The original illustrations have been carefully repaired, and the text has been edited to reflect language of the 21st century. If you look carefully at the final illustration, you can see that the hard-copy book was bound by hand-stitching the pages and covers. Availability: Kindletm Nooktm | | | Kiwi in Cat City Children
Amy and James live in a house with their parents and their little black cat, Kiwi. One dark night, Amy cannot sleep and she looks out of the window into the garden to see Kiwi transfixed by the moon, which has taken on a weird, glowing shape like a cat's claw. Waking her brother, Amy suggests they follow Kiwi that night to see where she goes... whether it involves a hunt for mice or something else. Little do they know that, with a flick of her tail, Kiwi is going to lead them on the adventure of their lives to a land they never knew existed in their wildest dreams. In the blue-lit world of Cat City, they gain an understanding of what it's really like to be a cat. There they get to help Inspector Furrball solve the mystery of the missing catizens and find out what happened to Madame Purrfect. This book is the first in a series of adventures.

Five short stories combined into one collection, written for demented children and adults too. Follow the tales of anti-heroes through misadventures and mishaps. Emo bunnies, zombies, rainbows, an unholy cow and sugar plum fairies dance across the pages. Caution, these stories are not for the sane of heart.
“The Emo Bunny that Should”
Emo the Bunny was a sad bunny. He preferred gloomy days, walks over a cliff and misery of any sort. One day he saw something very unusual. Normally he'd take a nap and try to forget about it, but for some reason he took an interest. Then things happened. Emo the Bunny hated it when things happened.
“Zachary Zombie and the Lost Boy”
Zachary Zombie is searching for newts in the forest. He finds a lost boy instead. When the boy asks nicely for help getting to his home in the village, Zachary agrees. Things are bound to go wrong when a magical stag, a pretty woman at the edge of a cliff, a party in the cemetery and villagers with torches and pitchforks are mixed with a craving for brainsss.
“Drippy the Peg-Legged Rainbow”
Rainbows have existed throughout the universe since shortly after its inception. Born from light and moisture, they have expanded along with galaxies and other cosmic goo. They only die from the destruction of worlds, absence of moisture or the long loss of light. Many are ancient, being nearly as old as the universe itself. Others are young, only born moments ago. All are beautiful, although many beings in the universe think them to be evil bearers of bad tidings and illness.
This is the story of one rainbow, neither ancient nor young . .
“Unholy Cow”
Everyone keeps talking about holy cows, but nobody wants to discuss the evil, unholy cows. They creep through nighttime pastures, looking for the next opportunity to make the world a worse place to live. Opal’s parents think Halloween is evil and that candy is bad for little children. They have never let her go trick or treating. Runyx the Unholy Cow is about to change that.
“Attack of the Sugar Plum Fairies”
The Sugar Plum Fairies are tired of dancing for nothing. To make matters worse, the North Pole is freezing, they have to wear skimpy outfits and their poor little legs get worn out quickly. When the Elvin Labor Union was formed, the poor little fairies were left out of any sort of fair bargaining agreement.
The time has come for all of that to change. Availability: Kindletm Nooktm Other | | | The Firestone Crystal Children

For someone afraid of the dark, living in the Arctic is a severe test of courage. There the sun doesn't shine for several months. Jean-Paul, a young Canadian boy, struggles to hide his fear and adjust to life in the Northwest Territories, where he is taunted and excluded from activities by a group of Inuit boys because of his small size and a limp caused by a birth defect.
When Jean-Paul finally succeeds in impressing the boys with the tricks he's taught his husky, Sasha, they agree to let him join their club, the Ice Patrol. But as part of the initiation, they force him into a deserted igloo that is rumored to be haunted, where he must remain for two hours. The forced imprisonment, with no light and only Sasha for company, proves to be just the beginning of the most serious challenges to face Jean-Paul in the harsh Arctic environment.
Set in the 1930s, this novel is an exciting story of ordeal and courage, of friendship and loyalty. Readers will sympathize immediately with young Jean-Paul and will be charmed by Sasha, the beautiful husky puppy that steals everyone's heart.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Several years ago, while living in Michigan, Bonnie Turner and her family adopted a husky named Sasha, the same name as Jean-Paul's dog in the story. For Bonnie Turner, that exciting event led to a lasting interest in Inuit culture and life in the Arctic, and to the writing of The Haunted Igloo.
But while Sasha may have spurred the author's interest in writing this book, she has always enjoyed writing and telling stories to children and comes from a family of artists and poets. The Haunted Igloo is her first book for children.
After the first edition of The Haunted Igloo was published, the author visited local schools with a handmade, life-size Inuit doll, lecturing students on the importance of reading and writing, and passing out polar bear hugs along with her autograph. Her huge supply of fan mail testifies to the popularity of this heart-warming book set in the Arctic.
Bonnie Turner lives in Wisconsin. Availability: Paperback Kindletm Nooktm Other | | | Kangaroo Dog - The Green Heart Books Volume 1 Children
